SEAL CHANGE INSTRUCTIONS
• Removal of the head assembly is not required to replace the seals.
• Clean and inspect all seal surfaces when replacing seals. Replace head assembly if any seal surfaces are damaged.
• O-rings and seals can be lubricated with water, if necessary, before reassembly.
1. Make certain that water pressure is shut off at main water valve.
2. Turn filter handle (item 6) to the "OFF" position.
3. Place a bucket or similar container under filter to catch any water.
4. Remove sump and cartridge(s) from filter head.
5. Turn filter handle to "ON" position and allow water lines to drain.
6. Loosen, but do not remove, center stainless steel valve screw (item 7) from inside filter.
7. Holding the valve screw in place, remove entire valve assembly (item 8) from filter head by grasping valve body, twisting
slightly and pulling down from filter head.
8. Set valve assembly aside until step # 17
9. Remove filter handle assembly (item 6) from filter head by twisting and pulling up. Note: The handle shaft has [2] o-rings.
If one remains inside head center hole, remove it with a plastic pen or other non-metallic tool using care not to damage
o-ring seal surface.
10. Clean and inspect seal surfaces. Place new large shaft o-ring (item 2) over large diameter of the handle shaft and slide it
fully to upper end of shaft.
11. Slide new small shaft o-ring (item 3) over end of shaft until it rests against the step at the lower end of the shaft. DO NOT
stretch it over large diameter of shaft.
12. Remove the vent o-ring (item 4) from the top surface of the filter head with a small non-metallic tool. (A wooden toothpick
is ideal).
13. Clean and inspect seal surface. Place new vent o-ring into circular recess on top surface of head.
14. Reassemble handle assembly to head by slightly twisting and lowering into head bore. Check that handle "IN" and "OUT"
markings are positioned to the match head inlet and outlet ports. Leave handle aligned with head: "ON" position.
15. Remove seal rings [2] (item 1) from inside filter head. If necessary, they may be pried out using a pencil or other nonme-
tallic tool. (The use of metal tools such as a screwdriver may scratch the seal surfaces of the head).
16. Clean and inspect both seal surfaces. Place new valve seal rings [2] into recesses inside filter head with the concave end
towards the head (see Figure 1 for correct direction). Make sure seal rings are installed in the correct direction and fully
seated.
17. Disassemble valve body. Place new valve o-ring (item 5) onto recess on conical side of spool (See Figure 1).
18. Assemble valve body (see Figure 1).
