Ethernet 2-Wire Extension
Item-No. 97 55 39
Intended Use
The product is intended to be used for extending the maximum cable length of an Ethernet connection with
10/100 MBit. The transmission using VDSL technology takes place via a 2-pole telephone cable with RJ11
plugs. A cable length of 1000 m is possible between the two extenders. It is also possible to use telephone
lines that already exist as well as to transmit the signal via a telephone jack.
The power is supplied from the wall plug transformers included in the delivery.
Always observe the safety instructions and all other information included in these operating instructions.
This product complies with all current National and European requirements. All names of companies and prod-
ucts are the trademarks of the respective owner. All rights reserved.
Package Contents
• 2 Long Reach Ethernet Extenders
• 2 Wall plug transformers
• 8 rubber feet
• Operating Instructions
LEDs on the Extender
Duplex
Lights up when the RJ45 connection is working in the full-duplex mode
Speed
Lights up at a speed of 100 MBit on the RJ45 port
Link/Act
Lights up on active connection to the RJ45 port, blinks during data transfer

Flashes slowly while the connection is being established; lights up if the connection is active;
flashes quickly during data transfer
Safety Instructions
Please read all of the operating instructions before using the product for the first time;
they contain important information about the correct operation.
The warranty will be void in the event of damage caused by failure to observe these safety
instructions! We do not assume any liability for any consequential damage!
We shall not accept liability for damage to property or personal injury caused by incorrect
handling or non-compliance with the safety instructions! In such cases the warranty will
be null and void.
• The unauthorised conversion and/or modification of the product is inadmissible because of
safety and approval reasons (CE). It must not be opened or dismantled! It does not contain
any internal parts that need to be adjusted or maintained by you.
• The product is only intended for use in dry, indoor locations. No part of the product should be
allowed to become moist or wet, never take hold of it if your hands are wet!
There is a risk of a life-threatening electric shock!
• The design of the wall plug transformers complies with protection class II. Only connect the
wall plug transformer to a standard mains socket connected to the public supply.
• Only use the external wall plug transformer enclosed to power the unit.
• The product is not a toy. Keep devices that operate on the mains voltage out of the reach of
children. Therefore, be especially careful when children are around.
• Further, protect the product from direct solar radiation, strong heat (>45°C), cold (<0°C), dust
and dirt, splashes and dripping water, vibrations or mechanical loads.
• When the product is taken from a cold to a warm room (e.g. during transport), condensation
may be produced. This could damage the product. This might cause a lethal electric shock!
Wait until the product has reached room temperature before using it. This may take several hours.
• Do not leave packing materials unattended. They may become dangerous playthings for children.
• In commercial institutions, the accident prevention regulations of the Employer's Liability
Insurance Association for Electrical Systems and Operating Materials are to be observed.
• In schools, educational centres, hobby and self-help workshops, the operation of the product
has to be supervised by trained employees.
• Handle the product with care. The product can be damaged if crushed, struck or dropped, even
from a low height.
• If you have any questions that are not answered in this instruction manual, please contact our
technical support centre or consult a professional.
Connection and Getting Started
www.conrad.com
• Before connecting the product, stick the enclosed rubber feet on the underside of both devices.
• You then have to configure the two extenders, by means of the DIP switches.
Version 03/11
Set the DIP switch 1 on one device to „CO" (Master) and on the other one to „CPE" (Slave).
°
The DIP switch 2 setting must be the same for both devices. „Fast" is used for a high data rate (e. g. video
streaming). „Interleave" is used to ensure that fewer data packets are lost. Thus, should there be any prob-
lems while using the setting „Fast", change to the setting „interleave".
Use the same setting for the DIP switch 3 on both extenders. If the data transfer is approx. the same in both
directions, select „S.ISDN" for synchronous data transfer. However, if only one point is sending, as is the
case for instance during video streaming, set the switch to „998.ISDN".
The standard setting for the DIP switch 4 is „6dB". Should you face any problems here, select „9dB". Here
again, the settings for both devices must be the same.
• After configuring both extenders, connect the extender that is set to „CO" to the first network device, e. g.
your router, using a 1:1 wired network cable. Connect the 2nd extender („CPE") to the other device, e.g. a
network camera, also using a 1:1 wired network cable.
• Now connect both devices, using a conventional telephone cable with RJ11 plugs. Only the two middle con-
nectors of the cable have to be assigned.
• Finally, connect the wall plug transformers to the two extenders and then connect each of them to a mains
socket.
• After a few seconds, the devices will be operational and establish a network connection automatically.
Handling
Maintenance and Cleaning
The product does not require any maintenance, never take it apart.
Disconnect the product from the power supply before cleaning, unplug the wall plug transformer from the
mains socket (all network connections will cease to function). Also, remove the RJ45 and the RJ11 cable.
Dust can easily be removed using a clean, soft brush and a vacuum cleaner.
Do not use aggressive cleaning agents as these can cause discolouration.
Do not press too strongly on the surface, to prevent scratch marks.

The maximum cable length between the two extenders is approx. 1000 m. Please note that,
depending on the cable length, the transfer rate may be reduced to 10 MBit.
The maximum speed is ca. 100/60 MBit for asynchronous data transfer or ca. 90 MBit for synchro-
nous data transfer. This speed is reached with a cable length of up to ca. 300 m.
• Any maintenance or repair work may only be carried out by authorised personnel.
• Check the product for damage before each use!
f you detect any damage, DO NOT connect or use the product! This may present a danger to
life!
• It can be assumed that safe operation is no longer possible if:
- the product shows visible signs of damage,
- the product does not function or does not function properly (e.g. a burning smell)
- the product was stored under unfavourable conditions
• When setting up the product, make sure that the cables are neither kinked nor pinched.
