Instructions for Continued Airworthiness For Garmin ADS-B System Installation
2.
Accomplish a close visual inspection of all riveted structure added by the modification. The inspection is
to determine the general condition of the structure in terms of cracking, corrosion, deterioration, condition
of fasteners and effects of wear and tear. There are to be no signs of damage, leaks or bulging. The
surface must be free from cracks, distortion, dents, scores, chafing, protective treatment deterioration or
signs of fluid ingress. If damage exists, the modified structure must be disassembled, inspected and
repaired in accordance with FAA approved design data.
3.
Inspect the external fuselage skin using high frequency eddy current inspection techniques around the
connector and installation fastener holes. Circle templates are provided at the end of this section to aid in
the inspection.
4.
Make sure the bonding areas of the attachment screws and antenna mating surfaces are not damaged or
contaminated.
Put the antenna in position and attached with screws. Seal the periphery of the antenna and heads of
screws with PS890B1/2.
Reconnect the coax and reinstall the removed headliner/avionics door.
5.
Perform a basic functional check of the GDL 88 GPS / GTX 3000 system:
If there were no incoming discrepancies for the transponder ADS-B output, then a basic annunciator
check is suitable. If the antenna is disconnected or the antenna has malfunctioned, the GDL 88 will
indicate loss of GPS position via the "GPO POS" annunciator.
If this inspection is accomplished concurrently with other maintenance that could disturb the GDL 88 or
GTX 3000 systems, use an ADS-B capable test set to confirm GPS position ADS-B transmission.
