and reliability that serious c yclists demand. Like all of our components, our R45 and R45
Disc hubs are user serviceable.
Cautions
C h r i s K i n g R 4 5 a n d R 4 5 D i s c h u b s a re d e s i gn e d to b e u s e d i n co n j u n c t i o n w i t h q u i c k-
release skewers. I t is recommended that the skewer develop a minimum of 1100 lbs. of
c la m p ing force w h en set. Fo r best per for mance, use skewers with ste el sha f ts. Tita nium
shafted skewers are not recommended.
Do not use thread-locking compound on any part of your hub(s).
Fo r t h e a l u m i n u m d r i v e s h e l l s o n t h e R 4 5 r e a r h u b s w e r e c o m m e n d u s i n g "s p i d e r e d " -
st yle cassettes. Avoid using individual cog-st yle cassettes with aluminum dr iveshells. We
r e c o m m e n d u s i n g o u r a l u m i n u m o r T i c a s s e t t e l o c k r i n g s w h e n i n s t a l l i n g 9 , 1 0 ,
and 11 speed drivetrains.
T h e C a m p a g n o l o - c o m p a t i b l e R 4 5 h u b u s e s d e d i c a t e d c a s s e t t e l o c k r i n g s.
lock ring is included with each hub. A 12-tooth cassette lock ring is available from any

Chris King hubs feature adjustable bearing preload. The bearings should be kept in proper
a d j u s t m e n t fo r o p t i m u m p ro d u c t p e r fo r m a n ce. D o n o t a l l ow t h e a d j u s t m e n t to b e co m e
loose, as this may cause a loss of performance and could lead to damage to the hubs.
Preparation and Setup
Wheel building
Hub dimensions and restrictions for wheel building are available on pages 12 and 13.
Chris King R45 and R45 Disc hubs are designed to work with 13, 14 and 15 gauge spokes. We will
not be responsible for damaged or destroyed hubs, any consequential damages, or any resulting
labor costs due to improper lacing of your R45 and R45 Disc hub. Proper wheel building technique
is essential in creating a strong wheel. Wheel building is a skill that requires proper training and
specialized tools and should be done by a trained professional.
