SCENE FILE screen, LOAD/SAVE/INIT, select
SAVE. e settings for the selected scene le will be
set to your own settings. is will not effect other
scene les.
To initialize a scene le, select the one you want to
initialize with the scene dial. en in the SCENE
FILE screen, LOAD/SAVE/INIT, select
INITIALIZE. e settings for only the selected scene
le are returned to the factory settings. is will not
effect other scene les.
Creating your own scene les is beyond the scope of
this introduction, however, page 85 of the owners
manual will show you all of the options you can
adjust.

Recommended settings for starting out

For starters, work with the F6. Scene Cine-D scene
le and set the recording format using the REC
FORMAT menu item under RECORDING SETUP
to PH 1080/30P for full-HD quality progressive
scan recording or PH 1080/24P if you prefer 24P for
compatibility with materials shoot on lm, but in
most cases you'll want 30P unless you know exactly
why you want 24P instead. I suggest avoiding the 60i
settings.
Most other camera settings in the menu can be left in
their default setting for starting out. After some time
using the camera, there are some settings (like those
dealing with auto focus and such) that you'll want to
change.

Things to avoid

Do not use the camcorder in shooting situations
under 32ºF or over 100ºF. Do not store the
camcorder in a car trunk or in a closed van. Do not
expose camcorder to rain or moisture. Protect the
camera from hazards of either a human or natural
origin.

SDHC Memory Cards

e camera records video onto SD or SDHC
memory cards. Use a card with at least 1 GB capacity.
Only SDHC cards may be used for capacities of 4

GB or greater. Speed class 4 or above
is required for recording in the PH or
HA modes (see Recording Modes).
Always format a card using the
camera, not your computer. Store
cards in an anti-static bags or the case
it originally came in after use, they are
susceptible to damage from static electricity. Avoid
touching the electrical contacts. Try grounding
yourself and the camera prior to removing from the
camera or inserting a card into the camera.
Access lamp. e access lamp located next to the SD
card slot. While in CAM mode (PB mode) the lamp
indicates: Flashing orange (fast): e camera is
verifying/inspecting the card for possible defects;
Flashing orange (slow): the card is being accessed;
Flashing green (slow): the card is write-protected or
there is no space left on card; Off: No card has been
inserted into the camera or the card is unformatted or
incompatible. While in PC mode the lamp indicates:
Orange: the card is being accessed; Off: something
other than card access is going on.
Removing cards. First, open the memory card slot
cover by sliding it to the left. Second, check that that
the access lamp is not ashing orange before opening
the cover. ird, Press the center of the memory card
so that it pops out slightly, and the pull the card
straight out away from the camera.
Formatting the card. To format a card, follow these
steps:
1. Power on the camera.
2. Press the MENU button.
3. Select CARD FUNCTIONS -> CARD
FORMAT from the menu,
a. Select YES when the card format screen is
displayed,
Select NO to abort this procedure and leave
the card untouched.
b. Press the MENU button to close the menu.
4. Select YES on the con rmation screen. e
memory card is now formatted.
5. Press the MENU button to nish. Remember,
formatting the card erases everything that was on
the card prior to the formatting operation. Now
the card is ready for use.
Recording capacity. e total available recording time
on a card depends on the Recording Mode chosen.
