Using this handbook
This handbook has been designed to give you all the information you
need to install, connect, set up and use the Arcam FMJ CD23 Compact
Disc player. The remote control handset supplied with the equipment
is also described.
It may be that the CD23 has been installed and set up as part of
your Hi-Fi installation by a qualified Arcam dealer. In this case, you may
wish to skip the sections of this handbook dealing with installation and
setting up the unit. Use the Contents list to guide you to the relevant
sections.
SAFETY
Safety guidelines are set out on the following page of this handbook.
Many of these items are common sense precautions, but for your own
safety, and to ensure that you do not damage the unit, we strongly
recommend that you read them. This is a class 1 product and requires
an earth connection.
DIGITAL TO ANALOGUE CONVERSION
The FMJ CD23 incorporates the unique dCS Ring DAC
delivers state-of-the-art performance from its revolutionary 24-bit
technology.
This new DAC is the result of a partnership between two British
companies - Arcam and dCS (Data Conversion Systems Ltd), the
world's leading supplier of professional audio ADCs and DACs. Ring
DAC technology exhibits exceptionally linear response when decoding
digital audio data, with the ability to resolve the finest acoustic details
recorded on a compact disc.
In the CD23, 24-bit digital filtering is provided by the Pacific Microsonics
digital filter, which also performs HDCD

the CD23 makes it one of the very best CD players currently available
at any price.
