1. When removing the cooling shield remember that it unscrews in a clockwise

direction.

2. When replacing the shield, be sure to screw it down tightly. We recommend

that you tighten the shield very tightly, as it secures the edges of the drag

washer. Loose installation will cause a jerky drag, so please be sure to follow

these simple instructions.

3. Keep the drag washer itself clean, dry, and free of all foreign matter while your

reel is disassembled.

4. Inspect the drag surface material for a thin film of drag grease. If a

reapplication is needed, use only Shimano's approved drag grease to ensure

the utmost performance of your reel's drag system.

5. Finally, care should be exercised when re-installing the screws that are

anchored in the graphite body. They should not be over-tightened. Only a mild

tightening pressure is necessary to secure them. Heavy pressure such as

used for tightening a nut and bolt may result in stripping the threads in the reel

body. Should this occur, oversize screws are available from Shimano or our

warranty centers.
