Important: for the best image results, first set the Color correction option to Default.
•
Color correction—allows you to choose which color profile is used by the scanner. Default generally gives the
best quality for color scans.
•
Edge cleanup—manually set how much of the edge to erase. Especially helpful to remove overscan.
•
Moiré reduction—used to help remove moiré patterns.
•
Image emphasis—setting to Smooth will soften the scan and is best for pictures. Setting to Low, Medium, or
High will increase the sharpness and is best for text. The settings from softest to sharpest are: Smooth, None,
Low, Medium, High.
Here is an example of text at a 4 point font size scanned in with Image emphasis at none and high (the
sample scans are enlarged to show details).
Original text:
ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZ
abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz
ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZ
abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz
Scanned with Image emphasis at None:
With Image emphasis at High:
•
White level—useful when parts of the scan that you would expect to be white (like the background) are
shaded. Normally you can just select the thickness of paper you are scanning for automatic correction. If using
the custom level, a smaller number will cause more of the scan to turn white. The default value is 250.
•
Black level—useful when parts of the scan that you expect to be black (like text) are gray. A larger number will
cause more of the scan to turn black. The default value is 0.
