Customizing Your BlackBerry
Listed below are some settings on your BlackBerry that you may want to look at so that you can
customize how your BlackBerry responds. These are only a sampling of customizations that can be
made. Explore the Options for each application and the general Options (wrench icon) for more
settings that can be modified.
♦ Changing your Notifications
•
In the top left corner select the Sounds icon and then choose a Sound Profile.
Existing Sound Profiles can be modified (Set Ring Tones/Alerts).
Distinct alerts can be tied to specific contacts (Set Contact Alerts).
Sound profiles can be created from scratch (Custom Profiles).
♦ Phone -> Options -> General Options -> Dial From Home Screen

Yes to begin dialing numbers or looking up contacts when keys are pressed on the Home screen.

No to allow for the use of shortcut keys to launch applications when keys are pressed on the
Home screen.
♦ Phone -> Options -> Voice Mail -> Password
•
Enter the user's voicemail password to enable the phone to automatically log in to voicemail
when the voicemail number is dialed.
♦ Phone -> Options -> Call Logging
•
Configures which type of call log entries (if any) are shown in the message list.
♦ Phone -> Options -> Speed Dial Numbers
•
Assign a contact to a speed dial letter.
Activate the speed dial by holding down the appropriate letter.
♦ Messages -> Options -> General Options -> Display Message Header On
•
Select either 1 line or 2 lines.
♦ Messages -> Options -> General Options -> Hide Sent Messages
•
Yes to hide sent messages in the message list.
•
No to show them.
♦ Messages -> Options -> General Options -> SMS and Email Inboxes:
•
Combines to have text messages and email messages in the same list.
•
Separate to have text messages only show up in the SMS application.
♦ Messages -> Options -> General Options -> Keep Messages
•
Sets the length of time to keep messages on the device.
♦ Messages -> Options -> Email Settings - > Save Copy In Sent Folder
•
Yes to add sent messages to the Sent Items folder in Groupwise.
•
No to not add them.
♦ Messages -> Options -> Email Reconciliation -> Delete On
•
Handheld to only remove deleted messages from the handheld.
•
Mailbox & Handheld to remove deleted messages from both the handheld and from Groupwise.
•
Prompt to have the device ask each time.
