General Training Tips

Slow and Steady Does it: Your dog's attention span is limited. Be patient

with your dog. Proper boundary training is absolutely necessary for

proper success of the Border Patrol unit. Please read the entire instruction

manual and training manual before training.

Ÿ Consistency is key. Your dog learns through consistency. Try to keep the

boundary points as consistent as possible and try not have your dog pass

through boundary points on a normal basis if possible.

Ÿ Each training session should not exceed 10-15 minutes at a time, 2-4 times a

day. Several frequent training sessions are better than infrequent long, drawn-

out sessions.

Ÿ Train while dog is calm and in attentive mode.

Ÿ Keep distractions minimal and introduce controlled distractions at appropriate

training level.

Ÿ A minimum of 21 days of training is suggested. However, this time period

will differ according to your dog.
