System Configuration

Light Source

Figure 1.3 shows the layout of the DIC system in the AXP or Studio PS400.

Essentially, the system consists of two 1.4 megapixel CCD cameras mounted above the

system's computer controlled infrared oven. Unlike Shadow Moiré, DIC does not require

an optical grating. In fact, this grating must be removed in order for the technique to

work. The double pane glass window remains to insulate the oven and provide a

viewport into the thermal chamber. The system light source remains the same as well

and provides diffuse illumination for the sample under test.
