Level   M atching   &   I nput   G ain   C ontrols  
If   y ou   h ave   e ver   l istened   t o   a   f riend's   " killer"   h ome   a udio   s ystem   a nd   h eard   l ots   o f   h iss,  
clicks   o r   p ops,   t hen   y ou   m ay   h ave   e xperienced   a n   i mproperly   l evel-­‐matched   s ystem.   T he  
following   s teps   w ill   h elp   y ou   t hrough   t he   p rocess   o f   l evel   m atching,   a lthough   a t   t he   e nd   o f  
the   d ay,   y our   e ars   w ill   b e   y our   g uide!    
1.  Depending   o n   y our   s ource   ( i.e.   S ONOS   C onnect,   T V,   C D   P layer,   G aming   C onsole,   D igital  
Player,   R eceiver,   P reamp   e tc.)   a nd   t he   a mount   o f   g ain   y ou   w ant   t o   s et,   a djust   o ne   o f   t he  
three   ' Gain   S eZng   k nobs'   o n   t he   b ack   o f   t he   R ialto   4 00   ( Digital   V olume,   A nalog   V olume  
or   S peaker   L evel   V olume)   t o   ' minimum'   f or   t he   i nput   y ou   a re   a djus`ng   t he   g ain   f or.   T his  
is   k nown   a s   " turning   d own   y our   g ains".  
2.  Start   p laying   s ome   d ynamic   m usic   a nd   a djust   t he   v olume   l evel   o n   y our   s ource   u nit   t o  
your   n ormal   l istening   l evel   u sing   t he   s ource's   v olume   c ontrol.  
3.  Now   i ncrease   t he   a mount   o f   g ain   o n   y our   R ialto   4 00   s o   t hat   t he   v olume   i ncreases   t o  
your   m aximum   ' LOUD'   l istening   l evel.   F or   s ome   o f   y ou,   t his   m ay   b e   l ouder   t han   o thers!  
4.  Con`nue   t o   fi ne   t une   t he   g ain   l evel   o n   y our   R ialto   4 00   t o   a djust   t o   p ersonal   p references,  
'loudness'   a nd   m usicality!   A t   t his   l evel   o f   g ain,   i t   w ill   s `ll   a llow   y ou   t o   i ncrease   t he  
source   v olume   u p   a nd   d own   t o   a chieve   m inimum   l evels   o r   r ock   t he   h ouses   i n   t he   n ext  
street   ( assuming   y our   s peakers   a re   g ame   f or   i t   a nd   y ou   h ave   u nderstanding   n eighbors!).
