Gigabit Ethernet Adapter
For 4600 & 5600 Series
IP Phones
Summary
This adapter enables IP Phones to operate in a Gigabit Ethernet environment. With the adapter installed up-line
of an IP Telephone, a single Gigabit Ethernet desktop drop can provide a 10/100Mbps connection to the IP
Telephone and a Gigabit connection to a personal computer. It is an un-managed device and is physically
stand-alone from the phone. The adapter is compatible with Avaya 4600 & 5600 Series IP Telephones. The
adapter will operate off local power or PoE (subject to the phone's power requirements).

The adapter is for use with Avaya 4600 & 5600 Series IP Phones with an integrated switch.
The adapter will be plugged in-front of the phone and pass 10/100/1000Mbps to a PC (or other device).
The adapter is separate from the phone so that it may sit under the desk and out of the way.
The adapter, when using PoE, registers as a Class 3 device regardless of the phone behind it.
October 2006 general availability (GA).
GPL: $150 (adapter only – phone, power cord, and power supply are sold separately). Standard IP
Phone discounts apply.
Compliance: US FCC, European Union CE, C/UL, VCCI, NOM, CCC, RoHS, WEEE.
This adapter will work with the current line of 4600 &5600 IP phones (with an integrated switch), thus
protecting customers' investments as they move to Gigabit LANs.
This is a low-cost migration path for customers looking to add Gig-E to their LANs without having to
purchase all new IP Phones or add new Ethernet drops in their facilities – allowing deployment of Gig-E
only where needed and effective, instead of requiring a fork-lift upgrade or a general rollout.
The Ethernet connection to the PC will be unaffected by service availability of the phone.
By keeping the adapter separate from the phone itself, customers will have more flexibility in deployment
and replacement of either unit.
The adapter will have three Ethernet interfaces:
One 10/100/1000 Mbps interface to be used as the line interface for the adapter (Uplink)
o
One 10/100/1000 Mbps interface to be used as a secondary interface for the attachment of a
o
device such as a PC
One 10/100 Mbps interface to be used with the existing IP Telephone line cord to connect to the
o
line interface on the telephone
The adapter will have one 48V DC connector (for use with the Power Cord, which is sold separately)
Adapter Dimensions: (Length x Width x Height, with integrated stand): 12.1cm x 4.9cm x 9.3cm
The Gigabit Ethernet Adapter is supported for use with these IP Phones:
4602SW, 4602SW+, 4610SW, 4620, 4620SW, 4621SW, 4622SW, 4625SW, 4630SW
5602SW, 5602SW+, 5610SW, 5620SW, 5621SW
Note: Other IP phones may also work but are not supported.
The Adapter will operate with Gigabit Ethernet switches that are fully compliant with the IEEE 802.3 standard.
Note: The Avaya-Cajun P580 Gigabit card, and other older switches that do not support the Carrier Extend
Signal, should not be used in conjunction with this Gigabit Ethernet Adapter.
The adapter may receive power from an IEEE 802.3a/f compliant Endspan Power source.
The adapter may be powered by an external 1151 type power-injector and special power cord (offered
separately). This will be required to power Class 3 phones.
