damage
unit.
Turn off
high frequency
when
using
unit.
Disconnect weld cable between
welding
pow
er source
and feeder when
high frequency
is
used.

GAS
METAL
ARC WELDING
(GMAW)
1.
Make all connections and thread
welding
wire
as
instructed
in
Section
4.
2.
Wear
dry insulating gloves
and
clothing.
3.
Connect work
clamp
to
clean,
bare metal
at
work-
piece.
4.
Energize welding
power
source.
5.
Place POWER switch
on
control in the ON
posi
tion.
6.
Rotate the WIRE SPEED control
to
the desired
setting (see
Section
5-3).
7.
Turn
on
the
shielding
gas
at the
source.
8.
Wear
welding
helmet with proper filter lens
ac
cording
to
ANSI Z49.1.
Open
feeder
case as
instructed
in
Section
4-2.
Open
drive roll
housing,
and release pressure
on
wire.
11.
Depress
gun
trigger
for
approximately
fifteen
sec
onds
to
purge
the
gas hose and
to
adjust
the regu
lator flowmeter
to
proper flow
rate.
IMPORTANT: Gas pressure of
6
pounds
or
flow
rate
of
15
cfh
are
typical. Welding
out
of
position,
welding
at
fast
travel
speed
or
at
high
wire feed
speeds,
or
welding
in
a
drafty
environment will
require
more
shielding
gas.
12.
Close
drive roll
housing,
and
adjust
pressure
on
13.
Close
and
secure
feeder
case as
instructed
in
Section
4-2.
14.
Hold the
tip
of the gun
approximately
1/2 inch
(13
mm)
from
the
workpiece.
a
WARNING: ELECTRIC SHOCK
can
kill.
Do
not
touch live electrical
parts.
Do
not
touch electrode wire when gun
trigger
is
pressed.
The
welding
wire and all metal
parts
in contact
with it carry weld
output
when the
welding
power
source
is
energized.
15.
Press the gun
trigger.
Gas flows
and wire
feeds
if
drive roll pressure is
properly adjusted
to
prevent
slippage.
If wire
slippage
is
noticed,
adjust
drive
roll pressure
according
to
Section
4-5.
6-2.
SHUTTING DOWN
1.
Stopwelding.
2.
Place POWER switch
in the
OFF
position.
3.
Shut down
welding
power
source.
4.
