Corrupt FlashRom Recovery
The method to recover a "corrupted" ROM chip is by performing a CN-CN burn. A known good
Boot Rom and Scan Rom must be in place to perform the CN-CN burn. First use a known good
set of ROMs to determine which ROMs are corrupt.
Procedure:
1. Power off the machine and locate a known good set of ROMs.
2. Put a known good Boot Rom in CN4 or the normal Boot slot.
3. Insert the corrupted Boot ROM in CN5.
4. Set all dip switches to the left (update position) & power on the machine
5. The machine should display Version Check Conf:_ _._ _.
6. Press the job status key 4 times. (Flash Copy CN4-CN5 is displayed). Press Start.
7. After the burn is complete, turn off the machine and remove the new copied Boot ROM
from CN5.
8. Put the known good Main ROM in CN5 and put the corrupted Main ROM in CN6.
9. Power the machine back on. (The machine should display Version Check Conf:_ _._ _.)
10. Press the Job Status key 4 times (Flash Copy CN4-CN5 is displayed).
11. Press the Image Send key 2 times (Flash Copy CN5-CN6 is displayed) & Press Start.
12. After the burn is complete, power off the machine and remove the new copied Main ROM
from CN6.
13. Repeat steps 9 through 18, substituting the next known good ROM for PCU SCAN etc. in
CN5 and the next corrupted source ROM in CN6 until you have overwritten each ROM
that is corrupted.
14. Turn the machine off.
15. Install the copied ROMS in the machine.
16. Set all dip switches to the right (default position).
17. Power on the machine.
18. Print off Test Command 22-6 to verify that the ROM versions are correct.
Note: It is not necessary to have a Main or PCU ROM installed in the machine while performing
the CN-CN burn – A good Boot ROM is in CN4 (this provides the utility software) and a good
Scan ROM is installed in the Scanner Control PWB
If your Scanner ROM is corrupt, you will need 2 known good Scanner ROMs, one for the
Scanner Control PWB to run the machine and one for CN5 to use as a source ROM.
The sfu file needs to have good data on it in order for it to be able to be located and overwritten
with the new data you are trying to burn. If the file becomes corrupt somehow, then that ROM is
no longer able to be burned with the new sfu file because the machine cannot locate the old sfu
file.
