z When to replace batteries
Under normal conditions, the batteries should last for about
6 months. When the remote no longer operates the amplifier,
replace both batteries with new ones.
Notes
• When using the remote, point it at the remote sensor
on the
TA-E9000ES.
• Do not leave the remote in an extremely hot or humid place.
• Do not use a new battery with an old one.
• Do not expose the remote sensor of the amplifier to direct
sunlight or lighting apparatuses. Doing so may cause a
malfunction.
• If you don't use the remote for an extended period of time,
remove the batteries to avoid possible damage from battery
leakage and corrosion.

CAUTIONS
Before performing the upgrade, please disconnect the
TA-E9000ES and the power amplifier, or cut off the power
supply to the power amplifier. If the upgrade is
performed while the power amplifier is in operation,
noise will be produced which can damage the power
amplifier and the speakers which are connected to it.
After the upgrade is finished, be sure to disconnect the
RS232-C cable before turning on the power of the
TA-E9000ES. If the cable is left connected, when the power
to the PC is turned on and off, there is a possibility that
the RS232-C port will become unstable, the TA-E9000ES
will stop operating, the display will malfunction, or noise
or distortion may be produced which could damage the
power amplifier and the speakers connected to it.
While running the upgrade program, do not turn off the
power to the TA-E9000ES as the internal flash memory in
the amplifier section could become damaged.
When the upgrade is performed, all the customized
settings (ex., SP SETUP settings and SURROUND
settings) are initialized to the factory settings. Make sure
to keep a record of your customized settings by writing
them down before upgrading.
Notes
This is a standard mode, great for
watching most any type of movie.
This mode is ideal for watching
science-fiction or action movies
with lots of sound effects.
This mode is ideal for watching
musicals or classic films where
music is featured in the

might have to lower the rate for some PCs. If you fail
in the following steps, try again at a lower rate.

x LFE high cut filter (LFE HIGH CUT)
This setting lets you select the cutoff frequency of the LFE
channel High Cut Filter. Normally, this should be set to STD.
When using a passive subwoofer powered by a separate power
amplifier, it may be better to change the cutoff frequency. When
this is the case, use a setting other than STD.
x Virtual speaker (VIRTUAL SP)
Allows you turn the virtual speakers created by the CINEMA
STUDIO EX.A, B, C and SEMI CINEMA STUDIO EX.A, B, C
sound fields on or off.
x Screen depth (SCREEN DEPTH)
In a movie theater, sound seems to come from inside the image
reflected on the movie screen. This parameter allows you to
create the same sensation in your listening room by shifting the
sound of the front speakers "into" the screen. In the VIRTUAL
MATRIX 6.1 sound field, this parameter can be set to ON or OFF.
In the CINEMA STUDIO EX.A, B, C and SEMI CINEMA
STUDIO EX.A, B, C sound fields, this parameter can be set to
OFF, MID, or DEEP. DEEP provides the greatest amount of
screen depth.
x Rear reflection enhancer (REAR ENHANCER)
This is a setup that adds the effect of a broader sound obtained
from the sound of the surround channel even when the surround
channel sound is monaural. This setting operates in CINEMA
STUDIO EX.A, B, C and SEMI CINEMA STUDIO EX.A, B, C.
When set to ON, the effect is automatically applied to sources
recorded in Dolby Pro Logic or Dolby Digital [2/1], [3/1]
surround sound. When set to OFF, there is no effect added.
x 6.1ch Matrix (6.1 MATRIX)
This parameter can be used only when VIRTUAL MATRIX 6.1 is
selected. Set whether or not the amplifier decodes the rear center
signal using 3D sound imaging for 6.1 channel encoded sources.
When set to ON, the amplifier performs 6.1ch MATRIX
decoding. When set to OFF, the amplifier does not perform 6.1ch
MATRIX decoding.
x Headphones level (HP. LEVEL)
Lets you adjust the level of the headphones. Adjust the level of
the headphones the same way you adjust the speaker levels.
x LFE (Low Frequency Effect) mix level (LFE MIX)
The upper limit is extended from 0 dB to +6 dB.
x Phase polarity of the input source (ABS. PHASE)
Lets you set the absolute phase polarity of the input source.
Normally, set to NORMAL. When outputting the sound of a
source of reverse phase, set to REVERSE. When set to REVERSE,
the polarity of the signals output from all the speakers and PRE
OUT jacks is reversed from the current polarity.
Note
This setting does not change the polarity of the sub woofer to the
front speakers. To change the phase polarity of the sub woofer to the
front speakers, set S.W PHASE to REVERSE in the SP SETUP menu.
7
Click "NEXT".
The screen for entering the CD KEY appears.
8
Enter the CD KEY as written on the CD-ROM
package, then click "OK".
The following screen appears.
9
Click "START".
Installation starts. The application automatically
installs the CONTROL, DECODER, and DISPLAY
programs. When the two bar graphs reach the right
end and the following display appears, the update
process is complete.
The display of the TA-E9000ES turns off while
installing the DISPLAY program, however this is not a
malfunction.
Disconnect the RS232-C cable and turn on the
TA-E9000ES. The firmware version number appears on
the display.
10
After turning on the TA-E9000ES, perform the
procedures of "MEMORY CLEAR" in the
"CUSTOMIZE" menu.
For details, refter to the Operating Instructions
supplied with the TA-E9000ES.
If the communication between the PC and the
TA-E9000ES does not go well, the following message
will appear. In this case, check if the connections are
correct and that the power is on.
* If the Updater does not start automatically even after
waiting for a while, use Explorer, etc. and double
click "UPGRADE.EXE" in the CD-ROM drive.
x Test tone noise type (NOISE BAND)
When set to STD, a standard test tone with the frequency
response recommended by Dolby Digital is output. When set to
WIDE, a "white noise" test tone is output. You can use it to match
the sound of the speakers.
* For the subwoofer, white noise is always output.
x Naming Program sources
Lets you register a name of up to 8 characters for the currently
selected function. Turn MENU to move the position and turn +/– to
select a character. The entered name is stored automatically.
To clear a name that has been registered, turn MENU to the left to
make the 8 character boxes blink. Then turn +/– one click to the right
to make the name appear as 8 spaces.
If you continue turning +/– to the right when the 8 spaces are
blinking, the preregistered model names of Sony components appear.
If you want to change the name, turn MENU until the character you
want to change blinks and turn +/– to change the character.
