Use the Disk Playback Re-
peat Function
Most pre-programmed Standard MIDI File disks use General MIDI voice assignments. When such disks are played on the
CLP-156, appropriate voices are automatically selected in response to the voice numbers included in the playback data. With
this function, however, it is possible to set the CLP-156 so that it will use the normal panel voice assignments instead of au-
tomatically conforming to the General MIDI assignments. This can be convenient when playing back data you've created for
the CLP-156 on an external sequencer or music computer.
This function cannot be used unless an appropriate disk is inserted in the disk drive.

GM Assignment. When a Standard MIDI File is playback on the
CLP-156, the closest possible voices to the GM voices specified
by the voice numbers in the playback data will be automatically
selected.
Normal Assignment. If a "GM on" message is received playback
will proceed in the same way as for the "SF.1" mode, but if no "GM
on" message is received the normal panel voices will be used for
playback (i.e. the voices will not conform to the General MIDI voice
assignments).
• The SF.1 mode is always selected when the power is initially turned ON.
NOTE
• The General MIDI standard specifies voice assignments that are essen-
tially the same on any device from any manufacturer so that any per-
formance data that conforms to the General MIDI standard can be
played back on any General MIDI compatible device. There are, how-
ever, slight differences in the voices provided by each manufacturer.
• Only the track-1 and track-2 data in any Standard MIDI File will be nor-
mally played back directly by the CLP-156 (unless the "Disk Playback
Track Selection" function is used — page 27). The data for all other
tracks will be transmitted via the MIDI OUT terminal.
