Defrosting

Frost is automatically eliminated from the evaporator
of the refrigerator compartment every time the motor
compressor stops, during normal use. The defrost
water drains out through a trough (Fig. 16) into a
special container on the back of the appliance where it
evaporates.
The freezer compartment, however, will become
progressively covered with frost. This should be
removed with the special plastic scraper provided,
whenever the thickness of the frost exceeds 4 mm.
During this operation it is not necessary to switch off
the power supply or to remove the foodstuffs.
Never use knives or metal objects to scrape away
the accumulated frost which might damage the
appliance.
However, when the ice becomes very thick, complete
defrosting should be carried out.
To carry out complete defrosting of the freezer
compartment (
) proceed as follows:
Unplug the appliance from the power supply or set the
thermostat on the « O » position. Wrap the foods in
several sheets of newspaper and then keep them in a
cool place.
Keep the freezer door open and place a basin on the
first shelf in the refrigerator directly below the
drainage hole and lift up the small lid (Fig. 17).
When defrosting is completed, dry the walls
throroughly and replace the lid; turn the thermostat
knob to the desired position or replace the plug into
the socket. After letting it run for two or three hours,
the appliance is ready again for storing frozen food.
We particularly recommed that you periodically
clean the defrost water drainage hole, located in
the center (Fig. 16) of the drainage groove in the
refrigerator compartment, to prevent the defrost
water from overflowing on to foods stored in the
compartment. Use the special cleaner provided,
which you will find into the discharge hole.
