Pulse relay SIR 8 AN
General information
Pulse relay SIR 8 AN is a system component for the SI building management system
for retrospective installation in distribution boxes or consumer devices. The SIR 8 AN
can be controlled as a normal monostable relay or a pulse relay via various inputs.
The relay is fitted with an integrated 24 V DC extra-low voltage adaptor for control-
ling the inputs. The isolating distance between the control circuit and the operating
voltage on one side, and between the control circuit and load circuit on the other,
meet the provisions for electrical separation given in DIN VDE 0100 Part 410. If the
provisions for electrical separation between the extra-low voltage and mains voltage
are observed even during wiring, the control switch for the SIR 8 AN or other com-
mand devices as well as the control lines must be designed solely for operation with
extra-low voltage. Simple unshielded control lines (e.g. IYY or IYSTY) can be used in
this case. If the relay is combined with operating devices or lines in the control circuit,
which do not meet the requirements for extra-low voltage, the protective measures
for a functional extra-low voltage of 24 V DC must be applied.
Input/output functions
When pulse functions are in use, only switching on the control voltage will have an
affect. Continuous voltage on one or more pulse inputs will not change the switching
status and does not disrupt the function when controlling the other inputs. Switching
on a continuous control voltage via monostable input A1 takes precedence over all
other control commands on the pulse inputs.

Mounting
Installation may only be carried out by an authorised, trained technician. The
SIR 8 AN is especially designed for installation in switch or junction boxes.
Requirements for command devices
Any device with outputs that function as on/off switches on 24 V DC are suitable for
use as command devices. The following criteria must be met:
1. The bounce time when the contact closes must not exceed 10 ms.
2. The maximum contact resistance Rmax must not exceed 1 Ω.
All conventional switches with mechanical contacts meet these criteria. However,
special attention concerning these requirements must be given to command devices
with semiconductor outputs.
Important information: When controlling more than one pulse relay centrally via a
keypad, only the +24 V DC outputs of the individual adaptors are through connected.
The 0 V potentials must not be connected, as parallel connection of the adaptors is not
permitted.
Guarantee
All professionally installed, unaltered devices are covered by warranty during the
statutory guarantee period from the day of purchase by the end user. The guaran-
tee is not applicable to damage incurred during transport or caused by short-circuit,
overloading or improper use. In the event of defects in workmanship or material,
which are discovered within the guarantee period, the company will provide a repair
or replacement free of charge. The guarantee will be rendered null and void if the
device is opened without authorization.
