COMPATIBILITY
X-Rotor SteelCarbon 2 disc rotors are compatible with International Standard (six-hole) type disc hubs, however they can
also be mounted on Center Lock hubs via adapters. It is essential that these adapters have a protection plate that prevents
the fixing lockring from tightening directly on the carbon fiber of the
disc rotors, damaging them (fig. B). For example, DT Swiss or
Ashima Centra-XL adapters are recommended.
X-Rotor SteelCarbon 2 disc rotors can be used with any type of pad
(organic pads are recommended for best performance).
We recommend to mount new brake pads on the new disc rotors.
Be careful, the contamination of the pads with oil and lubricants will
cause a permanent loss of braking power and require
their replacement.
INSTALLATION
Put a drop of medium threadlock on bolt thread (eg Loctite 243). Fit the
disc rotor taking care that the laser-etched logo on the rivets faces
outwards (fig.A). And tighten the bolts in a crossed pattern applying a
tightening torque of 4 Nm/34 in.lbs.
Make sure that the bolt heads fit in the bolt housings, some blots with
heads too large could not be compatible.
In case of installation with adapter, follow the instructions of the choosen
product. Pay attention to the alignment of the caliper on the disc and to
the proper functioning of the braking system: a not perfect centering or
non-symmetrical piston's work could push the rotor against the walls of
the caliper damaging irreparably its braking surface.
Before use clean the brake surface of the disc with alcohol.
TESTING AND USE
New disc rotors and pads require a testing period to reach the maximum
brake power. It is recommended to take your bike to a safe place on
asphalt and braking at least twenty times from a speed of 25 km/h until full stop. The best disk performance is obtained after a few
hundred kilometres.
CHECKS AND MAINTENANCE
Inspect and verify periodically the tightness of the fixing bolts and check the wear of the braking surface of the rotor. The wear of
the rotor coating surface doesn't compromise the safety, but reduces the braking performance and wear the pads more quickly.
The thickness of the braking surface must never be less than 1.5 mm.
In case of lower thickness the rotor shouldn't be used in safety.
Always pay attention to the wheel transport, any shock could damage the disc rotor or compromise the flatness.
