Install  Splitter  Filter  
 
A   S plitter  Filter  splits  one  jack  into  two  so   y ou  can  use  your  telephone   and  your  DSL  modem  with  a   s ingle  phone  jack.  
Find  the  phone  jack  that  is   c losest  to   t he  computer.   This  is   w here  you  will  install  your  Splitter  Filter.  
To   I nstall  the  Splitter  Filter:  
 
1.         D isconnect   the  phone  cord  from  the  phone  jack.  
2.         P lug  the  Splitter  Filter  into  the  phone  jack.  
3.         P lug  the  phone  cord  into  the  Splitter  Filter  in   t he  port  labeled  Phone.  
4.         L eave  the  other  jack  in   t he  Splitter  Filter  empty  for  now.  When  you  connect  your  DSL  modem  (later,  in   S tep  2),  
you  will  insert  the  modem  phone  cord  into  the  jack  labeled  DSL.  
 
 
When  you  are  sure  that  all   o f   y our  DSL  filters  are  installed   correctly   proceed  to   S tep  2   –   I nstall  DSL  hardware.  
 
Filter  installation:   Multiple  phone  devices  connected   to   e ach  other  
 
If   y ou  have  connected   phone  devices  (phone  and  answering   machine)   and  are  installing   DSL  for  the  first  time  or   i f   y ou  
are  moving  your  current  setup  around,  you  will  need  to   m ake  sure  your  connected   phone  devices  use  a   f ilter.  
 
Why  do   I   n eed  a   f ilter?  
 
Filters  are  able  to   b lock  the  DSL  signal  from  reaching  any  of   t he  devices  "downstream"   from  them.  If   y ou  have  two  or  
more  devices  in   a   s eries,  you  will  only  need  one  filter,  placed  between  the  first  device  and  the  wall  jack.  
 
How  do   I   i nstall  my  2-­‐ -­‐ -­‐ f or-­‐ -­‐ -­‐ 1   a dapter?  
 
If   y ou  have  one  phone  device  connected   into  another  phone  device,  such  as   a   p hone  plugged  into  an   a nswering  
machine,  follow  the  steps  below:  
 
1.         M ake  sure  the  filter  is   f irst  in   t he  series  and  properly  connected   at   t he  wall  jack  so   t he  DSL  signal  cannot  reach  
the  other  machine  
2.         P lace  only  one  filter  between   the  first  machine  and  the  wall  jack  if   y ou  have  two  or   o re  machines   in   a   s eries.  
3.         U se  only  one  filter,  no  matter  how  many  machines   are  connected   to  each  other  in  a   s eries.  
 
NOTE:  Do  not  place  filters  on   u nused  jacks  and  the  DSL  modem.  
 
When  you  are  sure  that  all   o f   y our  DSL  filters  are  installed   correctly,   proceed  to   S tep  2   –   I nstall  DSL  hardware.
