Copying footage
To back up your footage, you will create a Camera Archive of the SD card and save it to a hard drive.
A Camera Archive a bit-for-bit clone that contains the entire contents of a card (including all of the
video clips, folder structure, etc.) inside of one special folder or "package".
1. Connect your External Drive and insert the SD card. Close Photos, if necessary.
2. You must use Final Cut Pro X to create archives. Double-click the 'Click To Create
A Camera Archive' icon on the Desktop.
3. In Final Cut Pro, click the Import
button (or go to the File menu >
Import > Media)
4. Select the SD card (named
'CAM_SD') in the left sidebar. In the
bottom left corner, click the 'Create
Archive' button.
5. Be sure to save the archive to
your External Drive. When naming
the archive, include the date when
the footage was recorded.
6. Wait for the archiving process to complete; then quit Final
Cut Pro, eject the SD card and External Drive.
* DO NOT REMOVE THE CARD FROM THE READER UNLESS THE CARD
HAS BEEN EJECTED FIRST!
* RESPECT THE SD CARD! If the card gets erased and you haven't copied or
archived it, your footage is gone for good; there is no getting it back!
