Enhancements
This section describes enhancements for the firmware 09.02.00 release.
4Gb Fibre Channel speed support for Director 2/64
This release now provides 4-Gb Fibre Channel speed support in the Director 2/64 (Intrepid 6064
Director) in addition to support in the Director 2/140, which was released with firmware 09.00.00.
Operation at 4–Gb is provided with the use of the McDATA 4 Gb/s Intrepid 6000 QPM in the Director.
For more information about QPM, see the latest versions of the McDATA Intrepid 6140 and 6064
Directors Element Manager User Manual and the McDATA E/OS Command Line Interface User Manual,
available on the HP website http://h18006.www1.hp.com/storage/networking/index.html. Select
Retired Products and navigate to your director model and then to Manuals.
PFE feature bundling and trial PFE key support
This release supports product feature enablement (PFE) feature bundling and trial PFE key support. Trial
PFE keys let you try features for a predetermined amount of time, after which the features are disabled
non-disruptively, and if purchased, all feature configuration settings are retained. Trial keys are generated
for unique switches (based on serial numbers) and may only be installed once. Features enabled with
trial keys are only manageable via CLI and HAFM Basic.
For information about all PFE features, contact your authorized McDATA reseller. You can find the latest
reseller information on the website http://www.brocade.com/products/how_to_buy.jsp, and at the
Brocade Channel Partners website for your region (North America, Europe, Middle East & Africa; Asia
Pacific) http://www.brocade.com/partners/AlliancePartnerNetwork.jsp.
Supported Fabric Size Zoning Limits Increased
The supported limit of interconnected switches in a single fabric can be as many as 31 switches with
unique domain IDs. This can be increased to 31 provided that any Edge Switch 2/16, Edge Switch
2/32, or Director 2/64 in the fabric is deployed at the edge of the fabric. The supported limit of
attached server/storage devices in a single fabric has been increased to 2048.
Increased Domain ID Configuration Options
All M-Series Edge Switches and Directors now allow the offset range to be configured as 0 or a multiple
of 0x20. This allows the fabric to be assigned Domain IDs between 0x1 and 0xEF unlike earlier releases
that used the traditional range between 0x61 and 0x7F. This is configured using HAFM Basic or CLI, and
requires the switch to be taken offline momentarily. All switches in a fabric must have the same offset value.
WWN Aliases are available on Edge Switches
Configuration of WWN aliases is supported on M-Series Edge Switches. The HAFM Basic embedded
web server (EWS) interface now supports configuration of an alias for a device WWN on M-Series Edge
Switches, providing users the ability to name attached devices. Aliases allow users to more readily
identify attached devices, and simplify the process of zoning. Instead of relying on non-descriptive
WWNs, a logical name is associated to identify servers and storage devices. Up to 250 aliases can
be created and shared among the Edge Switches in the fabric. HAFM Basic displays aliases wherever
nodes are listed, including the zoning configuration screen. Use of WWN aliases via HAFM Basic is
intended for small to medium size environments. For larger fabrics, the nickname feature in HAFM
is recommended. Nicknames and aliases should not be used concurrently, as they are completely
independent and no automatic synchronization is provided. HAFM does not show aliases; and CLI and
HAFM Basic do not show nicknames. Nicknames provide all the capabilities of aliases; so a customer
with HAFM is encouraged to use the nickname capability exclusively.
