Getting Started and Operation
5.
Setting Up the Equipment
To obtain best performance from the Vario Basic 40/60/90, set it up on a stable, rigid and flat surface.
For optimal operating results, the planarity of the support surface should be 0.5 mm.
If you set up the Vario Basic 40/60/90 system on a table or bench frame, make sure that the table is dis-
tortion-free and stiff. Although most tables and bench frames have sufficient resistance to vertical vibra-
tion, they are relatively sensitive with respect to horizontal vibration. This causes amplification of struc-
ture and airborne noise.
Therefore, to set up your vibration isolation equipment, select a place with a vibration level that is as low
as possible. Vibration generated in this place should not exceed velocities of 500 µm/s. Read also page
8, section "Overmodulation of the System".
Operating the system at low temperatures may cause malfunctioning. If the equipment is brought
from a cold environment into a relatively warmer one, we recommend that you wait approx. 2 – 3
hours before plugging it into AC power and switching on the power.
Start-up
Set up the isolation elements on a flat, stable surface at your work area.
Connect the isolation elements with the control unit by using the D-Sub cables
Connect the control unit to AC power (main supply).
The two isolation elements need to be connected by a mechanical link.
Center your application the top plate of the breadboard table top.
Conduct the manual load adjustment as a pre-condition of the active vibration isolation.
Turn on the power switch on the front panel of the control unit.
Set the switch for active isolation to on, blue LED is on.
For optimal results align the isolation elements parallel to each other at a minimal distance of 400 mm,
measured between the inner sides. A shorter distance between the isolation elements is possible, but
there is a risk that the system becomes instable when a taller application is used.
See that the connectors of each isolation element are located towards the respective opposite
isolation element. The connection cables must be always placed between the isolation elements. Use
both Sub-D 15 pin (male/female, male/female) cables supplied to connect port „Isolation Unit A/B" on
the control unit.
It is recommended to fix your application to the isolation elements using the mounting holes to assure a
firm mechanical connection.
