FAXING
Versatile Fax with Choice of Transmission
High-Speed Operation
The AR-FX12 Fax Expansion Kit turns the AR-M351U/N into a
Super G3 fax machine featuring a fast modem speed of 33.6
Kbps. Using JBIG data compression, the AR-M351U/N can send an
A4 (8

/
" x 11") size page in under 3 seconds*. Working

together with the machine's speedy 50-sheet DSPF, this function
greatly enhances the efficiency of your faxing jobs.
*Based on Sharp's standard chart (A4 size with 6% coverage) at standard
resolution.

Quick On-Line Transmission
The AR-M351U/N starts dialling and transmitting a multi-page
document as soon as the first page is scanned into memory. This
allows you to send documents in much less time than with
conventional memory transmission.

Duplex Transmission and Reception
With the DSPF, the AR-M351U/N scans both pages of two-sided
documents and sorts them in memory. The pages are then
transmitted in the proper order. Thanks to the optional duplex
module, the AR-M351U/N can also print incoming faxes onto both
sides of the paper, thus saving you paper costs.
999-Number Auto Dialling
Register up to 999 frequently
used numbers into the
customisable directory of one-
touch auto-dial keys, listed in
alphabetical order for easy searches of specific numbers.
Multi Access Function
You get two different functions simultaneously; for example, you
can scan documents into memory for transmission while you
receive an incoming fax.

Internet Fax for Reduced Operation Costs
You can send and receive faxes to and from other ITU-T T-37-
compliant Internet fax machines via the Internet without worrying
about costs. Plus, you don't need to wait around for transmission
since the documents are scanned into and then sent from
memory. It's also much faster than public phone lines.
Note: Optional AR-NS3 required. AR-NC8 required for Internet fax
transmission/reception on the AR-M351U (transmission only with AR-NC7).
PC-Fax/PC-iFax
Finishing time
A PC-Fax/PC-iFax function allows you to directly send a document

created on your PC to a recipient's fax machine via a phone line or
the Internet. Since all faxing procedures are done on your PC
without printing to paper, this function saves time and costs,
increases faxing productivity, and retains original document quality.
Note: Optional AR-FX12 required for PC-Fax and AR-NS3 for PC-iFax. PC-Fax
reception also possible. AR-NC7 or AR-NC8 required for PC-iFax on the
AR-M351U.

Flash Memory Backup
In case of power failure, documents stored in memory are retained
until power is restored, preventing data from being lost.
OTHER KEY FEATURES
• F-Code communication enables confidential communication with fax
machines from other brands that conform to the ITU-T F-Code standard
• Automatic Reduction automatically reduces the size of the outgoing and
incoming document to fit the available paper size
• Memory Transmission/Reception stores documents in memory, allowing
the originals to be returned to the user quickly and saving incoming faxes
in memory if the AR-M351U/N runs out of paper or toner
• Ultra Fine mode gives the recipient crisp, clear reproduction of detailed
images and fine text
• Timer Transmission enables unattended after-hours operation when
reduced phone rates are in effect
• Polling allows the user to retrieve a document left in the feeder of a
remote fax machine
• Long originals (up to 800 mm long) can be sent using the DSPF
• Broadcast faxing to up to 500 destinations
• Programme keys (up to 8 keys) are available to set up frequently used
transmissions for instant recall
• Rotation Reception/Transmission rotates incoming or outgoing faxes to
match the direction of the printing paper size
• Divided Reception prints out long-length faxes onto separate sheets of
paper
• Convenient image editing functions: Edge/Centre Erase, 2-in-1, Card Shot
Note: The AR-FX12 may not be available in some regions.

DOCUMENT SECURITY

Sharp's Layered Security Approach Protects Your Business at Every Level
With multiple levels of network and data security to restrict access to electronic documents and ensure
that unauthorised personnel cannot get hold of valuable data, users have peace of mind knowing they
can safely copy, print, scan, and fax documents in any business environment.
Data Security Kit
Digital copier/printers or multifunction products can retain
hundreds of pages of confidential information from previous jobs
on their hard disk or internal memory. To prevent these sensitive
records from being recovered by unauthorised persons, the
AR-M351U/N can be equipped with the optional Data Security Kit,
which automatically encrypts and erases the data generated for
each job.

Data Encryption
Secure Print Server Card
The AR-M351U/N's IP/MAC address filtering function provides
highly secure operation by restricting access to the AR-M351U/N
Internet
on your office network. Only PCs that have either their IP address
or MAC (media access control) address registered are allowed to
use the AR-M351U/N. Attempted access from an unknown IP or
MAC address will be denied, preventing unauthorised use.
The network port/protocol management function makes it easy
to disable unnecessary protocols and vulnerable ports, such as
Telnet, JCP, and RARP, to eliminate the threat of unauthorised use,
password leakage, and unlawful IP addresses. Thus, the AR-M351U/N
greatly reduces the risk of both internal and external threats.

User Authentication for Network Scanning
To prevent unauthorised use of network scanning, including using
the LDAP function, the AR-M351U/N supports user authentication,
which requires users to log in to
the machine before performing
any network scanning
operations.
Secure Data Storage for Document Filing
With the Data Security Kit installed, all data that goes through the
AR-M351U/N's hard disk is encrypted. Combined with the PIN
codes in the Advanced Filing function (see page 6), this system
ensures solid security to protect your important business
information.

Print Hold and Confidential Print
To keep others from seeing confidential documents as they are

being printed out, the AR-M351U/N's Print Hold function stores
print data on internal memory* and withholds output until the user
executes a print command from the operation panel. For added
security, the Confidential Print function requires the user to enter
in a PIN (personal identification number) at the machine before
printing can begin.
*On the AR-M351U, data is saved to printer memory, and on the AR-M351N
or AR-NC8-equipped AR-M351U, data is saved to the hard disk.
