"'Surround'' sound reproduction
Ordinary
stereo
reproduction
presupposes
that
you
are
listening to the 3-dimensional sound from the front only.
However,
in a concert
hall or theater, the sound
is heard
not only from the front but from all sides since it is reflect-
ed off the high ceiling and walls. This gives the sound an
added ambience
and depth. It is this effect that the ''sur-
round'
attempts
to reproduce.

BEFORE OPERATION
CAUTION WHEN SOUND MODE IS SET TO

When the sound mode is set to 00 SURROUND,
the ex-
pander switch does not operate even if turned ON. Converse-
ly, if the sound mode is set to 010 SURROUND
when the
dynamic expansion switch is already, turned ON, the dynamic
expander is automatically turned OFF.
[ OPERATION
OF LOUDNEES
FUNCTION

When combined with a Pioneer Audio-Video master amplifier
{with connection
as) on page 6, only the amplifier loudness
function operates {to avoid double operation of the loudness
functions). On the other hand, when connection is made 'as on
page 7 to an ordinary amplifier, the SP-X707
loudness func-
tion operates.
NOTE:
Please plug the unit into a switched AC OUTLETS (other than for TV
use) provided on the A-X707V, A-X909V, or into an unswitched AC
OUTLET of a device connected to one of the above.
When
using the unit in combination
with a
Pioneer audio-video master amplifier, please
set each switch
as indicated
below,
before
operation.
REMOTE
CODE SELECTION
Set the control selector switch on the rear panel of the unit to
"B". This will allow the MASTER VOLUME UP-DOWN con-
trols on either the CU-AX002 remote control unit supplied with
a Pioneer audio-video
master
amplifiers,
or an optionally
available CU-AX001
full remote
control
unit, to be used to
control the volume of the unit. (Muting also operates in the
same way.)

BEFORE OPERATION ]
After turning on power, set the master volume of the Pioneer
When using the unit together with an ordinary
pre-main amplifier (excluding Pioneer audio-
video amplifiers), please follow the procedure
below.

Plug both the SP-X707 and the pre-main amplifier into an
AC walt socket. If the power cnsumption of the pre-main
amplifier is smaller than the capacity of outlet of the SP-
X707, plug the pre-main amplifier into the AC outlet of the ~
SP-X707. Power to the whole system can then be switched
ON and OFF with the remote control unit.
¢ Connect the signal cables between the unit and
the pre-main amplifier as follows.

In this case, the recard input level of a cassette deck connected
ta the amplifier, is changed by SP-X707 volume operations. For
this reason, we recommend that the tape deck be connected to
the TAPE terminal of the unit.
REMOTE CODE A/B SELECTION
Set the contro! selector switch on the rear panel of the unit
to "A",
VOLUME SETTINGS BEFORE OPERATION
Set the master volume of the pre-main amplifier to the ap-
proximate center position. The volume can be adjusted with
the remote control unit.

To raise or lower the volume, use the remote control unit sup-
plied with the Pioneer audio amplifier. If the remote control
unit supplied with the SP-X707,
and the volume controls on
the SP-X707
are used,
the forward
and rear sound
volume
balance between
the front speakers and the surround speakers
will be changed. If the balance should be upset, repeat the
above 'Volume setting before operation''.
