When shooting in extremely dark situations,
flash can be used with slow shutter speeds to
obtain the correct exposure for both the subject
and background.
Often, when taking flash pictures in low-light
situations or at night, the background comes out
vastly underexposed. In this case, set the
slow-sync flash mode on your camera.
This allows the use of slow shutter speeds for
recording detail in the background, while the flash
provides the correct exposure for the subject in the
foreground (p. 58).
