QS11 Operator Notes
Sectioning – The recommended blade holder angle for most applications is 10°
After each use – Remove any debris from the microtome and cryo-chamber. Especially
clean the blade holder, specimen head and vertical travel areas. A build-up of debris
over time may freeze causing "knocking" or "thumping" during handwheel operation.
Periodically – Empty the liquid that accumulates in the plastic container from the defrost
cycles. The container should be periodically disinfected.
Defrosting – Due to the extremely low temperature in the cryo-chamber and the window
remaining open for extended periods of time during operation, humidity from the room
will create a frost build-up inside the cryostat. It may be necessary to occasionally turn
the cryostat off and perform a complete defrost of the unit.
