Installation Guide
Dell PowerVault Fibre Disk RAID Controller for the PowerVault 660F and 224F storage
systems provides protection against drive failures and supports configurations using
multiple hosts and redundant controllers for improved fault-tolerance and high-
performance data throughput.
This document describes the major features of your controller, tells you where to find
help, describes installation procedures, and lists technical specifications.
System Features
Your Dell Fibre Disk RAID Controller has the following features:
•
Support for 128 (megabytes) MB, 256 MB, and 512 MB of error checking and cor-
rection (ECC) protected synchronous dynamic random-access memory
(SDRAM).
•
Three Fibre Channel ports, 1 host port and 2 device ports. Each port provides a
1-gigabyte/second (GB/sec) FC_AL class 3 interface. The interfaces adhere to the
Fibre Channel arbitrated loop direct disk attach profile. The host port supports
direct- or switch-attached connections and the device ports provide the hard-disk
drive interfaces.
•
Host connection made through a DB 9-type connector. The controller also has a
high-speed serial data connector (HSSDC) expansion connector port that allows
additional PowerVault 224F enclosures to be daisy chained onto a PowerVault
660F creating a maximum of 112 hard-disk drives possible.
•
Rear-panel light-emitting diode (LED) indicators show controller status.
•
Hot-pluggable insertion, removal, and replacement of controllers, hard-disk
drives, enclosures, fans, power supplies, and other system components without
shutting down the system.
•
In a single-controller (simplex) or dual-controller (duplex) configuration, the con-
troller supports up to 32 data logical unit numbers (LUNs).
