Inspection
Before beginning assembly of
t h e HCS2-DX board,
you
should inspect
the PCB for shorted or open
traces.
his w i l l increase your assembly
t i m e slightly but it
is
well
worth the e f f o r t compared to the time
it
can take to
track down a problem a f t e r t h e board h a s been assembled.
The
easiest
way
to do this is to
hold t h e board up to a light.
You
should then be able to see
all t h e traces clearly.
Examine
each trace
f o r breaks or shorts to other traces.
If
you
find what looks to be a
short,
use t h e
schematic to v e r i f y that the traces should n o t
be
connected.
A
continuity checker or a
VOM
can then be used to deter-
mine
if
t h e short is
t r u l y there.
T h e
continuity
checker
or
VOH
c a n
a l s o be
used to test
f o r
a
break
in
a
trace.
You should also check
for
continuity between
t h e Gnd and V+ pads of
512.
These t w o points
should MOT be shorted together.
