When equipped with optional Ethernet WICs, the Cisco 1700 Series supports a two- or three-Ethernet configuration,
enabling deployment with an external broadband modem (such as DSL, cable modem, or wireless modem)—often
supplied by a service provider as a demarcation point and deployment of a demilitarized zone (DMZ). (See Figure 3.)
