listening and operating experience is the very best that it can be.
Yamaha Plasma Display Monitors use the most
advanced technologies to deliver superb
performance.
e-ALIS Method Panel
Technology
(PDM-5520)
The PDM-5520 uses a
highly advanced e-ALIS
Method (extended
Alternate Lighting of
Surface) panel whose pixels are defined
electronically rather than physically, allowing
each picture element to be smaller than normal.
This creates a higher pixel count for a smoother,
seamless picture. The panel employs new plasma
gas and luminescent material that are more
effective than previous types, and the area coated
with the luminescent material is greater. This
results in the industry's highest level of
brightness, 1,000 cd/m
, with the ability to
2
display 1.07 billion colours for spectacular colour
richness and purity.

e-ALIS Method Panel Technology
The e-ALIS (extended ALIS) Method Panel technology was
developed to enable the use of the ALIS Method on large screens.
Adopting the shared electrode structure that is a special feature
of ALIS on the front panel permits the display of highly detailed
images of 768 lines with 384 electrodes. 1/60 second (1 field) is
divided twice into odd number lines and even number lines to
perform address, then emits all pixels. During the next 1/60
second, the same operation is done to display a 1/30 second
image (1 frame).

e-ALIS Method Panel Structure
The back panel of the e-ALIS Method Panel has a lattice-shaped
rib structure. Supplementing its high aperture rate by increasing
the area coated with fluorescent materials results in higher
brightness, achieving the industry's highest class of 1000cd/m
a 55V high definition PDP.
ALIS Method Panel Technology (PDM-4210)
This plasma display panel uses an advanced ALIS
(Alternate Lighting of Surface) Method to deliver a
sharp, clear picture with the smooth, high-definition
quality you see in a movie theatre. The ALIS Method
employs a screen surface comprised of vertical
channels of continuous phosphor material. The pixels
are defined electronically rather than physically,
allowing each picture element to be smaller than
normal. This creates a higher pixel count for a
smoother, seamless picture, with edges and curves
clearly defined. The PDM-4210 uses the ALIS Method
technology, which features new plasma gas and
luminescent material that are more effective than
previous types. The result is a brighter picture (1,100
cd/m
2
) and higher colour temperature, which makes
white areas such as clouds in the sky stand out more
vividly. The panel can also display a wider range of
colours (16.7 million), with enhanced colour purity.

Natural Black Drive System
The Natural Black Drive
System automatically
determines the brightness of the screen and applies
the gray scale (contrast) best suited to the scene in
order to reproduce both bright and dark areas with
small details clearly visible. The contrast ratio is an
outstanding 1,000:1, making it possible for the
Yamaha Plasma Display Monitors to deliver sharp,
natural-looking images.

The Natural Black Drive System allows the PDM-5520
and PDM-4210 to outperform other plasma displays
with deeper blacks and sharper overall contrast.
Digital Linear Colour Control
Digital Linear Colour Control continually maintains
2
on
the ideal balance between the three main colours
(red, green, blue) for optimum colour reproduction
in every scene from very dark to very bright. The
sharpness and tint of each colour are independently
controlled, so you can adjust tint more precisely.
Long Life of 60,000 Hours
Another benefit of the e-ALIS/ALIS Method Panel
technologies are lower power consumption and
longer panel life. The Yamaha Plasma Display
Monitors will provide high quality images for
60,000 hours,* about twice as long as a typical CRT
monitor.
* Until panel brightness reduced to 40%. Yamaha measurement.
Mode Selection for Best Picture Quality
The Yamaha Plasma Display Monitors offer several
modes that allow you to adjust the picture to
obtain maximum quality. There are two Picture
modes (Day and Night), four White Balance modes
(Normal, Cool, Warm, Black-White), and a Film
ALIS Method Panel
mode for watching movies.

and Matrix Surround are provided, as well as four
audio modes (Movie, Music, Speech, Favourite).
HDTV Capability (PDM-4210)
The PDM-4210 is fully HDTV capable, meaning that
1080i high definition images can be displayed line
for line without vertical scaling. The 1,024 x 1,024
resolution provides a completely clean HDTV
picture, with no noise at the edges.
True HDTV Picture Quality

1080 lines
1080i is the HD broadcasting standard. However, it uses overscanning, so
the actual screen is 95%, or 1,024 lines. Therefore, the ALIS Method Panel
with 1,024 pixels reproduces the true image, without noise at the edges.
