To Install Battery
1. Turn the unit over and open the battery door by
pulling back the latch using a ball-point pen.
2. Install a 4 AAA alkaline batteries (not included),
while making sure that the + and – ends match up
with those inside the battery compartment for
backup Caller ID memory.
3. Install a 9 volt alkaline battery (not included) for
backup clock and alarm time.
4. Close the battery compartment door and turn the
unit over.
NOTE: When the 9 volt battery is getting weak a BATT.
LO LED will light. When the 4 AAA batteries are getting
weak, the
icon will light up on the LCD CID
display. When either indicator or icon lights up, it is
important to change the batteries as soon as possible.
Adjustable Display
You can adjust the display panel to four different viewing
angles of your choice.
Adjustable Backlight
You can adjust the backlight (both the CID display and
clock display) to normal or high level using the DIMMER
HI/NORM switch at the right side of the unit.
NOTE: The backlight will turn off when there is no AC
power.

Adjustable Digital Volume
You can adjust the [Volume
] to select a
] or [Volume
suitable listening level when playing a CD or listening
to the radio.
SETTING UP CID500
Plug in the AC power cord before setting up the
unit.
DO NOT CONNECT the telephone line cord to the
wall outlet until the Caller ID setup has been
completed.
To Set the Language
The CID display shows 'ENTER LANGUAGE' followed
by a choice of 3 languages (English, Spanish, French).
If the CID display does not appear this way, press and
hold both [REVIEW ] and [REVIEW ] for 10 seconds.
1. The CID display then shows 'ENG ESP FRA'.
2. The 'ENG' is BLINKING. Press [REVIEW
[REVIEW ] to select 'ENG', 'ESP', or 'FRA'.
3. Press [DELETE] to confirm.
To Set the CID Display Contrast
1. The CID display shows 'LCD CONTRAST'.
2. Press [REVIEW ] or [REVIEW ] to adjust five
levels (from 1 to 5, default is 3) contrast of CID
display.
3. Press [DELETE] to confirm.

To Set the Area Code
1. The CID display shows 'ENTER AREA CODE'. The
first digit '–' of the area code will blink.
2. Press [REVIEW ] or [REVIEW ] to enter the area
code.
3. Press [DELETE] to confirm and go to the next entry.
4. Repeat steps 2 and 3 until 3-digit area code is set.
The CID display shows 'TOTAL:00 NEW:00', which
means both the total call and new call counter are zero.

Receiving a Call
When you receive a call, the phone rings and the NEW
CALL LED flashes. The CID display will show the name
and the caller's telephone number, if you want to talk
to the caller:
1. Pick up the handset to answer the call.
2. At the end of the call, return the handset to the
cradle.
NOTE: If your CD or radio is on, it will automatically be
muted when the handset is removed from the cradle.
Your CD or radio will resume playing after about 1 to 2
seconds when the handset is put back in the cradle.
Dialing a Call
1. Pick up the handset and wait for a dial tone.
2. Press the keypad for the telephone number you wish
to dial. The CID display will show the number that
you dialed on the keypad. If you dial a number over
14 digits long, it will show the last 14 digits only.
3. When you have completed your call, hang up the
handset to release the telephone line.

TELEPHONE FEATURES
Tone/Pulse Switch
Set switch to your type of service. If you don't know
whether you have tone or pulse:
1. Put the T/P switch on T.
2. When you have a dial tone, press any key on the
keypad. If the dial tone stops, leave it on T. If not,
change the setting to P.
Tone/Pulse Combination Dialing
Combination dialing is useful to subscribers of Pulse
(rotary) service who wish to gain access to various
low-cost long-distance or automated computer
services otherwise not available to them.
1. With the T/P switch in the P position, dial the phone
number.
2. Press [ ], and your telephone will change to Tone
dialing mode.
3. Dial your code/authorization number. When your call
is completed, your telephone will automatically
return to the Pulse dialing mode.
NOTE: Combination dialing can also be stored into
the memory for one-touch access to your long distance
or automated computer service.
Receiver Volume Control
The Receiver Volume Control is located on the side of
your handset. This enables you to adjust the receiver
volume on your telephone handset from high to normal
for a more comfortable listening level.
Ringer Off/Low/High
This unit features a harmonic dual tone ringer that can
be adjusted from a loud (HI) to a soft (LO) sound level.
When you don't want to be disturbed, slide the switch
to the OFF position. You can still make outgoing calls
without being disturbed by incoming calls.
