Installation
1. General
Installation and electrical connections must be carried out in accordance with EN60079-14 or local or national
standards and/or codes of practice as applicable.
The luminaires are class 1 apparatus and must be suitably earthed. It is the installers/users responsibility to ensure
that the luminaire and the relevant ratings are suitable for the application.
Additional external earth facilities are provided on the floodlight body and CGB control-gear box body.
2. Supply Voltages
For voltage refer to rating plate. The ballast tapping must match the supply voltage.
Depending on the luminaire/ballast type supplied it may be possible to adjust the voltage tapping on the ballast to suit
the electrical supply.
Note: it is important that the frequency of the supply matches the frequency stated on the ballast rating label.
Supply voltage variation must not exceed ±6% and the luminaire should not be operated continuously beyond this
limit. In any case the voltage variation must NEVER exceed ±10% as this will invalidate the certification and could lead
to the product being unsafe.
If in doubt, advice should be sought from Abtech technical department.
3. Supply Cable
All versions of the ATS floodlight are suitable for standard PVC cable. Terminals are suitable for looping up to 6mm²
conductors. Cable type must be effectively filled to ensure that the restricted breathing properties of the luminaire are
maintained.
Access to the terminals is via the control gearbox cover which can be removed by undoing the four cover screws.
All electrical connections and components should be inspected for security of wiring and cracks in insulation.
The conductors should be fitted into the terminal block ensuring that conductors are not stretched or stressed. Check
that the ballast tappings match the supply voltage and adjust as necessary.
When terminating the conductor into the terminal block it is vital that no more than 1mm of bare conductor protrudes
from the terminal throat.
Maximum current rating of the terminal block is 16A continuous. Only one conductor may be fitted in each terminal
way. Tighten all used and unused terminal screws. Refit the cover, ensuring that the gasket is clean and undamaged.
4. Cable Glands
The CGB control-gear box uses increased safety, Ex e, as the protection concept. Cable glands must be suitably
certified 'Ex e'. Cable glands should be fitted with an appropriate sealing washer to the outside of the luminaire.
The standard cable entry is M20 x 1.5p; M25 x 1.5p is available as an option.
5. Mounting Luminaire
The luminaire should be mounted on a solid structure not prone to excessive levels of vibration or shock. The
luminaire should be fixed in position in accordance with lighting design parameters and secured using appropriate
fixings. The luminaire should ideally be installed with the lamp axis horizontal. If mounted with lamp axis vertical, the
lamp cap must be at the bottom.
The beam distribution is asymmetric and account should be taken of this beam type when aiming the floodlight.
Generally the best distribution for area lighting will be achieved with the glass oriented between horizontal and no
more than 10º off horizontal.
Alternative mounting options are available, such as pole mounting and pendant mounting, further details are available
from Abtech sales department.
6. Lamp Fitting and Replacement
Access to the lampholder is via the ignitor housing on the side of the luminaire.
Undo the captive securing screw on the ignitor housing. Rotate the ignitor housing anti clockwise until the stop is
reached and pull the ignitor housing free of the luminaire, the lamp can then be unscrewed and disposed of in
accordance with local or national regulations.
Replacement lamp must match the characteristics of the electrical data shown on page 1 of these instructions.
Lamp must be firmly screwed into place to ensure adequate electrical contact.
Whilst the ignitor housing is removed, inspect the flamepath for signs of pitting or corrosion and also check the
condition of seals. If in doubt, seek advice from Abtech technical department.
The flamepath should be lightly coated with molybdenum grease prior to refitting which is the reversal of removal.
Tighten the securing screw, ensuring that it is properly seated in its cut out on the luminaire body.
