Troubleshooting the Handpieces

Problem
Low pressure to handpieces
Two or more handpieces run when only
one should.
Water leaks from handpiece when
switch is on, but handpiece is not in
use.
None of the handpieces work (no air or
water).
Water to 3-way syringe but there is not
water to the handpieces.
Air escaping from foot control when not
in use.
Water leaks from handpiece when not
in use.

Low pressure from compressor or
regulator in junction box
Air adjustment screws on control block
are closed or adjusted too low.
Handpiece may not be seated properly
in holder.
Defective water relay
Handpiece may not be seated properly

Pinched or crimped foot control tubing
Valve off or pinched water line
Water switch on foot control or control
panel turned off
Defective water relay
Water toggle switch defective
Tubing for air signal from toggle switch

Correction
Check air pressure gauge. Ensure
75-80 psi prior to adjusting handpiece
block.
Turn adjustment screws (recessed in
console) counter-clockwise to increase
pressure.
Check that placement in holder
properly shuts off micro switch at the
base of the holder.
Inspect water relay for proper function.
Replace if necessary.
Check that placement in holder
properly shuts off micro switch at the
base of the holder.
Check tubing and remedy or replace
tubing.
Ensure flow control valve is opened.
Turn on water switch.
Replace water relay.
Replace switch.
Correct tubing.
Replace gasket.
Replace gasket.
Correction
Secure bulb in socket.
Replace bulb.
Push firmly into receptacle.
Check air signal tubing connection on
lamp control box.
Check wires connecting to the lamp
control box, transformer and handpiece
tubing. If a loose wire is found, refer to
wiring schematic and manufacturer's
repair diagrams.
