Upgrade Dell EMC Networking N1500 Series Switches

Introduction

This document provides specific procedures for upgrading the firmware to the Dell EMC Networking

N1524/N1524P/N1548/N1548P switches

IMPORTANT:

Dell Networking N1500 Series switches support 6.2.5.3 or later firmware

(6.5.2.9)

It is recommended that this document be thoroughly reviewed prior to installing or upgrading of this product.

For information regarding the latest available firmware, release note revisions, or additional assistance, please visit

Administrators must have access to the CLI via telnet, SSH or the serial port to perform the upgrade procedure.

IMPORTANT:

Dell Networking N1524P and N1548P switches below with HW revision of 3 and

later require firmware version 6.3.2.4 or later (6.5.2.9) and cannot be downgraded to earlier

6.1.x.x/6.2.x.x/6.3.x.x releases. Dell Networking N1524P and N1548P switches with HW revision

of 3 can be stacked with N1500 series switches with HW revision of 2 or older. If N1500 Series

switch with HW Rev.3 is to be deployed as a member within a stack of N1500 Series switches

with HW revision of 2 or older, the entire stack will be required to run 6.3.2.4 or later (6.5.2.9).

The "show version" CLI command will help to identify the Switch Hardware version of the

switch.

Dell Networking N1500 series switches support firmware downgrade from 6.5.2.9 to an earlier 6.x.x.x release. But

migration of switch configuration information from a later release to an earlier release is NOT supported. It is

strongly recommended that the current configuration be saved locally (i.e., not on the switch) prior to downgrading

the firmware. The existing configuration may or may not work with the earlier version of firmware, therefore, it is

always best to be physically present at the switch site and to be prepared to access the switch over the serial port if

necessary when downgrading firmware.

IMPORTANT:

Dell Networking switches N1524P and N1548P switches with new HW Revision 3

consists of PoE controller which requires a firmware version 6.3.2.4 and later. Firmware version

6.5.2.9 is backward compatible with the earlier HW Rev 1 and HW Rev 2. But firmware downgrade

of 6.3.2.3 or earlier releases is restricted on newer HW Rev. 3 switches. N1500 Series stack with a

new HW Rev. 3 switch as a member, stack will not be allowed to downgrade to a version 6.3.2.3 or

earlier.
