USES, CALL THE AUTOPAGE TECHNICAL DEPARTMENT AT 800/262-2526, EXTENSION 451 FROM
7:30 AM TO 5:00 PM PST. FAILURE TO FOLLOW THE ABOVE WARNINGS WILL CAUSE DAMAGE TO
THE VEHICLE AND THE PAGER MAIN UNIT, AND WILL NOT BE COVERED UNDER THE WARRANTY.
INSTALLING AS A STAND-ALONE SYSTEM
1. AFTER you have determined the location of a constant battery source for connection of the AP4000EX control unit,
you must also determine a source of switched 12 volts from the ignition switch. This source, usually found in the ignition
switch harness, will show constant voltage when the key is "ON" and the engine is running. This voltage source must be
eliminated when the engine is switched "OFF". WARNING: DO NOT DISREGARD THIS STEP! CONNECTION
OF THE VEHICLE'S SWITCHED IGNITION TO THE WHITE WIRE OF THE AP4000EX IS VERY
IMPORTANT. THIS CONNECTION WILL TURN OFF THE AP4000EX SO IT WILL NOT BE ALLOWED
TO TRANSMIT A SIGNAL DURING VEHICLE OPERATION.
2. After securing the main control unit (*), connect the SWITCHED IGNITION as determined in the above step to the
WHITE ignition input wire.
(*) DO NOT SECURE THE PAGER MAIN CONTROL UNIT TO ANY AIR BAG RELATED WIRE HARNESS
OR COMPONENT.

3. When installed as a stand-alone system, triggering of the AP4000EX will be from the vehicle's pin switch (dome
light) circuit. Connect in the following manner. For POSITIVE switched vehicles (most Fords), connect a wire from
the switched side of the vehicle's pin switch to the VIOLET input wire of the AP4000EX. For NEGATIVE switched
vehicles, (most, except Fords) (*), connect a wire from the switched side of the vehicle's pin switch to the GRAY input
wire of the AP4000EX.
(*) Some late model Ford vehicles now use a NEGATIVE pin switch system. Check carefully before making the
connection.
