TROUBLESHOOTING GUIDE

Under certain conditions, performance of the unit may be adversely affected by factors other than defects. If problems occur,
please review the following list and take remedial action as needed. If you cannot solve the problem after checking the
entire list, please contact your local Olympus representative for assistance.
Problem
1. Optical System
a) Bulb does not light.
b) Bulb lights but the field of view is
dark.
c) Field of view is obscured or not
evenly illuminated
d) Dirt or dust is visible in the field of
view.
e) Image glares.
f ) Visibility of observed image is poor.
· Image is not sharp.
· Contrast is poor.
· Details are poorly visible.
· Darkfield observation is poorly vis-
ible (with flare tendency)
Cause
Bulb is burned out.
The aperture or field iris diaphragm is
closed.
Analyzer and polarizer are engaged in
light path.
Light path selector knob of trinocular tube
is pasitioned halfway.
Mirror selector lever is in an intermedi-
ate position.
Light path selector knob of trinocular tube
is in positioned halfway.
Mirror selector lever is in an intermedi-
ate position.
Revolving nosepiece is not in a click po-
sition.
Revolving nosepiece is not installed cor-
rectly.
Field iris diaphragm is not centered.
Field iris diaphragm is closed too much. Open it sufficiently.
Filter is not in a click position.
ND filter is not in a click position.
ND filter is half interlocked.
Lamp bulb is not installed correctly.
Analyzer and/or polarizer not installed
correctly
Dirt/dust on specimen
Dirt/dust on eyepiece
Dirt/dust on extremity of objective
Aperture iris diaphragm is closed too
much.
Objective in use is not designed for UIS2
(UIS) series.
Dummy slider is not inserted in revolv-
ing nosepiece.
Revolving nosepiece is not installed cor-
rectly.
Remedy
Replace bulb.
Open the aperture and field iris dia-
phragms.
Disengage them from light path.
Set the light path selector knob to po-
sition
or
.
Set the knob correctly.
Set the light path selector knob to a
click position according to the pur-
pose.
Set the knob correctly.
Set it in a click position.
Secure it by pushing in the sliding
dovetail all the way until the stopper.
Center the field iris diaphragm correctly.
Set it in a click position.
Set it in a click position.
Set correctly to interlock or release ND
filter.
Push halogen bulb terminals all the
way into stop position.
Engage analyzer and polarizer in light
path.
Clean thoroughly.
Open it sufficiently.
Replace with a specified objective for
UIS2 (UIS) series.
Insert dummy slider.
Secure it by pushing in the sliding
dovetail all the way until the stopper.
