5. Stage
a) Image shifts when you touch stage. Stage is not properly mounted.
b) Specimen stops midway on the X-
axis traverse.
c) Horizontal and/or X- and Y-axis
knobs are too tight or too loose.
d) Stroke has reduced.
Cause
When adjusting stage height, you forgot
to reattach upper stopper screw.
Pre-focusing lever is locked at a too low
height.
Condenser holder is too low.
Specimen is mounted upside down.
Interpupillary distance is incorrect.
Incorrect diopter adjustment.
Different eyepieces are used on left and
right.
Your view is not accustomed to micro-
scope observation.
Specimen is not correctly positioned.
Tension of horizontal and/or X- and Y-
axis knobs is too high or too low.
Stage guide is deviated.
Remedy
Reattach upper stopper screw.
Unlock pre-focusing lever.
Raise condenser holder.
Mount specimen correctly.
Adjust interpupillary distance.
Adjust diopter.
Change on eyepiece to match the
other so that both sides are the same
type.
Upon looking into eyepieces, try look-
ing at overall field before concentrat-
ing on specimen range. You may also
find it helpful to look up and into dis-
tance for a moment before looking
back into microscope.
Clamp stage.
Place specimen correctly.
Adjust tension.
Use treatment method described on
page 13.
