Process
Installation
Installing and mounting the DEFENDER® module
The best location for a stealth installation is beneath the front dash, behind the radio or instrument cluster.
Please use nylon tie straps (cable ties) to firmly mount the unit.
Connecting the 12/24v Power cable/wire (Pin1 Red cable/wire)
To prevent a possible transient voltage surge it advised to disconnect the vehicle battery.
Disconnect the ground (-) cable/terminal. Please note warranty does not cover damage from a transient voltage surge.
Securely attach the 10 Pin connector plug into the DEFENDER
Locate the Red cable/wire found on the 10 pin connector.
Connect the Red cable/wire to a constand 12/24v source. Please note: It is important that the 12/24v power
source maintains 12/24v at all times, even if the vehicle is switched off. Power should be taken directly from the ignition
column, where you will find constant power and switched ignition, this is the cleanest source of power for your tracking
unit. DO NOT use the radio as a source of power. DO NOT connect the Yellow and Red cables/wires together.
The Yellow cable/wire must be connected to the switched ignition (see hereunder).
Connecting the Ground cable/wire (Pin 6 Black cable/wire)
Locate the Black cable/wire found on the 10 pin connector.
Connect the Pin 6 black cable/wire to the closest point of a solid chassis ground uninhibited by paint or plastics.
It is important that you DO NOT use any floating ground from the vehicle's electrical system. Alway connect
the ground Pin 1 Black cable/wire directly to the chassis body and secure with a factory bolt or aftermarker screw.
Re-connect the negative terminal to the vehicle battery and proceed to the next step.
Connecting the switched ignition 12/24v cable/wire (Pin 3 White wire)
Locate the Pin 3 White cable/wire found on the 10 pin connector.
Connect the Pin 3 White cable/wire to the switched 12/24v ACC ignition of the vehicle.
It is important that switched 12/24v drops to zero (0) volts with the ignition off and restores back
to 12/24v with ignition on. This connection is used to monitor the engines on/off state.
How to find (+) 12/24v switched ignition with a digital multi meter
1. Set your meter to DCV or DC voltage.
2. Attach the (-) negative probe of the meter to the chassis ground.
3. Probe the wire you suspect of being the ACC wire in the steering column, your meter should read (+) 0v
4. Turn the ignition key to the "ON" position. If your meter reads (+)12/24VDC go to the step 5. if not probe another wire.
5. Now turn the key to the start position. The meter display should stay steady (+)12/24v. If it drops close to or all the
way to zero (0), go back to step 3, if it stay at (+) 12/24v then you have the ignition ACC wire.
Door status detection
Refer to your vehicle/owners manual to confirm if the vehicle central locking actuator is a positive trigger or negative
trigger system.
If your actuator is a POSITIVE trigger then connect the PIN 4 Green cable/wire
to the signal cable/wire of the actuator
If your actuator is a NEGATIVE trigger then connect the PIN 8 Blue cable/wire
to the signal cable/wire of the actuator
This connection will trigger alarm and alerts if door opens when system is armed.
WARNING
Solder and insulate all connections (Crimping should be avoided wherever possible)
