BAITRUNNER FEATURE
The Shimano BaitRunner feature on your new BaitRunner represents a true angling revolution. You can now
fish bait with your bail closed and your reel in total free spool, which makes fishing live bait much easier and
effective.
The BaitRunner feature consists of the BaitRunner lever, a free spool tension adjustment dial, and an
automatically engaging strike alarm. Here's how it works.
1) Set the front drag - When you begin fishing, flip the BaitRunner lever to the "Drag On" position and set
your drag. To increase drag strength turn the drag knob clockwise, counterclockwise to decrease it. When
completely tightened by hand the drag is at maximum strength. Forcing the knob to turn further or using
tools to turn it may result in damage to the reel.
2) Setting BaitRunner Tension - Flip the BaitRunner lever to the "BaitRunner On" position. This puts your reel
in total free spool. Now use the "BaitRunner Tension Dial", located at the rear of the reel to set your free
spool tension right where you want it for the type of bait you are using.
The BaitRunner tension dial enables you to program in the tension for any type of bait fishing you could
want to do. For example, if you are using cut or non-swimming bait, such as sea worms, clam, cut bait, etc.,
you will probably want your BaitRunner tension very light, so the fish can pick up the bait and run without
any pressure from the reel to alarm him. Simply turn the tension dial all the way to the left to achieve the
very lightest free spool tension.
If, on the other hand, you are using a medium size live bait, such as a pogie, anchovy, pilchard, etc., you will
need a moderate amount of free spool tension to keep the baitfish from pulling line off the spool and
swimming all over the ocean. In this case, simply move the free spool tension dial toward the right to
gradually increase tension.
3) Fishing - Make casts with the BaitRunner lever in the "Drag On" position. Once the cast is made, simply
flip the BaitRunner lever forward to the "BaitRunner On" position. You are now effectively fishing your bait
in controlled free spool. Setting the hook is very simple. Just turn the handle forward and the BaitRunner
will instantly shift to the "Drag On" position where your previously selected drag takes over as you stick the
fish. You can also shift BaitRunner manually at any time by flipping the lever backward to the "Drag On"
position.
