Q18. How do I use an external CRT with my LT - 286e?
A.
You can connect a monitor to the video interface (DB - 9) on the side of
the unit.
LCD and an external CRT display.
monochrome, CGA and EGA monitors. For best results, a TTL
monochrome monitor should be installed for software as "640 x 350 EGA
MONO".
Hard Disk Drives
Q19. What capacity hard drives come with the LT- 286e?
A.
Either a 20 MB type 2 (A811221) or a 40 MB type 17 (A811231).
Q20. Can I install the hard drive myself?
A.
Yes. Open the computer and remove the blank cartridge from the left side
above the keyboard. Grasp the hard drive cartridge with the "PUSH" button
to the left. Lower the cartridge squarely into the drive bay, using the keyed
slots to locate it correctly. As it seats, press down firmly but carefully until
the cartridge locks in place. Turn the computer on and run SETUP to
select the correct drive type. If it's a new drive, it will need to be
partitioned and formatted before use.
Q21. What is the "SHOCK WATCH" indicator on the bottom of the hard drive
cartridge?
A.
The hard drive cartridge is a delicate device. The shock watch capsule is
a precautionary device to let you know if a drive has received an excessive
physical shock. For example, the shock watch capsule would turn from
clear to red if a drive was dropped approximately 2-4 feet on thin carpet.
It does not mean that the drive is definitely damaged - it simply lets you
know that it has received a shock and should be thoroughly tested by a
Customer Care Center before further use.

Does the hard disk drive (HDD) automatically park the heads in the landing
zone when the LT- 286e is turned off?

Yes. The HDD automatically parks the heads when the unit is turned off.
