Problem
f ) Visibility is poor.
· Image is not poor.
· Contrast is poor.
· Details are indistinct.
· Image glares.
g) One side of image is blurred.
h) Image appears to waver.
i ) Field of view becomes only slightly
brighter when the brightness adjust-
ment knob is rotated.
j ) Image looks reddish.
2. Electrical System
a) Bulb intermittently lights and goes
out.
b) Bulb burns out almost immediately.
c) Brightness does not change when
you turn light intensity adjustment
knob.
d) Lamp voltage cannot be varied with
light intensity adjustment knob.
3. Coarse/Fine Adjustment
a) Coarse adjustment knob is hard
to turn.
b) Stage drifts down by itself or focus
is lost during observation.
c) Image cannot be focused.
d) Coarse adjustment will not go all
the way up.
Cause
Immersion oil contains bubbles.
Recommended immersion oil is not
used.
Dirt/dust on specimen.
Dirt/dust on condenser.
Inappropriate object side or cover
glass thickness.
Objective is not correctly engaged in
light path.
Revolving nosepiece is not correctly
mounted.
Stage is not correctly mounted.
Specimen is not correctly mounted
on stage.
Revolving nosepiece is not corrected
mounted.
Objective is not correctly engaged in
light path.
Condenser is not properly centered.
Condenser is not properly centered.
Condenser is lowered too far.
The LBD filter is not engaged in the
light path.
Bulb is nearly burned out.
A connector is not properly connected.
Wrong type of bulb is being used.
Light intensity preset button is set to
ON.
Bulb is burned out.
Tension adjustment ring is tightened
excessively.
You are trying to raise stage without
coarse adjustment knob while pre-
focusing lever is kept locked.
Tension adjustment ring is too loose.
When adjusting stage height, you for-
got to reattach upper stopper screw.
Pre-focusing lever is locked at a too
low height.
Remedy
Remove the bubbles.
Use the Olympus-designated immer-
sion oil.
Clean it.
Replace with glass of recommended
thickness.
Make sure that revolving nosepiece
clicks into place correctly.
Push slide dovetail all the way until it
is stopped.
Re-attach it.
Place specimen correctly on top of
stage and secure it with slide holder.

Center the condenser.

Adjust the condenser height position
Engage the LBD filter in the light
path.
Replace bulb.
