[BEFORE PLAYING
® Check for correct power voltage.
The main Power Voltage is indicated on the name plate
on the back of the Clavinova. In some market areas,
a voltage selector may be included. This will be located
on the bottom of the Clavinova. Your Clavinova has
been set for the voltage in your area. Consult a
qualified technician if any doubt exists or a change
is required.

® Brilliance
This slide control adjusts the tonal quality of the sound.
When set to the center position the ''normal'' tone
is produced. As the BRILLIANCE
control is moved
toward the MELLOW setting the high frequencies are
reduced, creating a softer, more mellow tone. As it
is moved
toward the BRILLIANT
setting the high
frequencies
are
emphasised,
creating
a brighter,
sharper tone.
® Tremolo
When this button is pressed a gentle swirling effect
is added to the sound.
@ Ensemble
Pressing this button produces a lively ''shimmering''
effect that adds depth to the sound.
@ Chorus
When the CHORUS
button is pressed a slow varia-
tion in the tonal quality of the sound provides a sense
of spaciousness.
© Effects of Using the Pedals
There are three different kinds of effects that can be
obtained by using the pedals, namely DAMPER, SOFT
and
SOSTENUTO.
The
right pedal
controls
the
DAMPER effect, while the left pedal is used for either
SOFT or SOSTENUTO.
Damper
Pressing the stand's right pedal causes the sound to
continue
when
the key is released,
much
like an
acoustic piano.
eSOFT
Pressing the stand's left pedal softens the sound.
*SOSTENUTO
(This effect is obtained by switching
the SOFT pedal.)
When the SOSTENUTO pedal is pressed, its effect is
applied only to notes of keys that are already being
pressed, providing a resonance similar to the DAMPER
effect. Depending on the music you are playing, you
can switch between the two effects of the left pedal
in the following way.
Switching between SOFT and SOSTENUTO
Press and hold down the TRANSPOSER/MIDI button,
then step on the stand's left pedal connected to the
SOFT/SOSTENUTO jack.
The CHORUS lamp will light up, thus indicating that
the pedal you just pressed is currently used for the
SOSTENUTO
effect.
*The lamp will indicate the pedal setting only as long as the TRANS-
POSER/MIDI
button
is being pressed.
As soon
as this button
is
released,
the lamp will again indicate the present setting of the
CHORUS
effect.
If you want to switch the pedal back to the SOFT
effect, again press and hold down the TRANSPOSER/
MIDI button, then step on the pedal. The CHORUS
lamp will go out and the pedal will again control the
SOFT effect.
*When
power
is turned on, the effect of this pedal is always auto-
matically set to SOFT.
