BlackBerry Enterprise Server for Microsoft Exchange
Technical Note: Impact of using the BlackBerry Calendar Synchronization Tool
The test environment consisted of 2000 users on a single BlackBerry Enterprise Server. Two identical
Microsoft Exchange servers each supported 1000 users. The calendars of all 2000 users were
populated with approximately 12 appointments each day over a period of several days. Separate
tests measured the performance impact on the environment when the BlackBerry Calendar
Synchronization Tool was configured to synchronize calendar differences over 1 day, 2 days, 3 days,
and 4 days.
The synchronization task ran at a steady state for approximately 30 minutes, and then decreased
gradually until it was complete. The total time that the task took to complete was 60 minutes.
Results
The following results represent the steady state portion of the synchronization task. The results for
the two Microsoft Exchange servers were combined.

The following graphs demonstrate that the use of system resources was relatively linear for the
increasing number of calendar appointments that the BlackBerry Enterprise Server processed.
